My opinion on prop 127 it really doesn’t matter which way this vote goes ACC and Arizona electric power co-ops are not looking out for the people of Arizona. I have followed ACC electric co-op legislation since I moved to SaddleBrooke in 2003. Arizona electric co-ops have been successful getting everything they asked for. All their legislation favored fossil fuel, hydro power generators, their very powerful unions and lobbyists. Arizona voters lost big time. Either way prop 127 vote goes there is nothing in future that will prevent electric rates from increasing substantially at the whim of electric co-ops and granted by ACC.
Arizona ranks first for most average days of sun per year. ACC, AZ electric co-ops, fossil fuel, hydro power generators, their powerful unions and their lobbyists have completely killed Arizona solar industry along with many jobs. Under current legislated laws a healthy solar industry will never return to sunniest state in the country. A significant loss for Arizona voters. Meanwhile solar industry is growing strong in states above the rust belt who are working proactively with their states fossil fuel electric generators, solar and other sources for the benefit of their residents, conservation and sustainability into the future.
Arizona ranks number 12 in top 20 Energy Price Index, a proprietary tool that combines the average electricity rate by state with a state’s average monthly usage to produce a number that reflects average monthly bills for a state.
Will SBRC challenge republican ACC board candidates Olson and Glassman to address egregious ACC legislation passed over last 10 years that destroyed a valuable, important and growing industry that can never survive in Arizona under current ACC legislation? I certainly hope so.
